NORMAN, Okla. -- Phil Loadholt can't help it. Wherever he goes, he attracts attention.
Some call attention to themselves by their actions, some by their attitude. Loadholt's calling card is his imposing size and stature - and a rare talent in the most competitive environment on campus.
He stands 6-8 and weighs 337 pounds. And as the starting left tackle for the Sooners' football team, his size serves him well on the field. Aptly named, he's certainly a "load."
Who wouldn't notice the tallest and largest guy on the football team? As a matter of fact, it's hard for Loadholt to blend in on campus or in a crowd. But where he stands out most is on the field of play.
Success breeds success for Loadholt. His All-America years as a junior college player earned him a place on the Sooners' line. From there, Loadholt was caught in the magical motivation that success brings.

It's hard for Loadholt

to blend in on campus

or in a crowd, but

he stands out most

on the field of play.

"After winning the Big 12 Championship last year in San Antonio and getting that ring, I started to drive myself to play as hard as possible and see exactly how good I can be" said Loadholt. "When they handed us that ring, I automatically wanted another. I use that as motivation and my driving force."
With that motivation in place, Loadholt is quickly becoming one of the best offensive linemen in the country. As loudly as his actions speak for the Sooners' offense, he is equally as confident but much more soft-spoken everywhere else.
Loadholt's teammates may be the only people who are fortunate enough to notice the difference in his demeanor on the field and among the Sooner nation.
"Phil has everyone fooled. On the field he is a leader and he is loud. He is the same way in the locker room" said sophomore defensive end Gerald McCoy. "He is quiet in the public eye, yes, but in the locker room he really gets that offensive line going. He is a great guy and a great player."

As loud as his actions

speak for the OU

offense, Loadholt is

equally as confident

but more soft-spoken

everywhere else.

"I don't like to say a lot in most settings. I would rather let my actions as a person and my actions on the field speak for themselves" Loadholt said. "If you talk a lot, people don't listen as much after a while. If you are quiet, people will always listen when you have something important to say."
His attitude toward football and school is very noticeable. Loadholt is able to turn off that loud rambunctious attitude, and turn on that quiet guy that most people know. Majoring in multidisciplinary studies, the senior from Fountain, Colo., takes his studies seriously.
"My parents make sure that my grades are where they need to be. They have always motivated me to focus on school, then sports" said Loadholt. "After they make sure everything is ok with the grades, then we get a chance to talk about an upcoming game or whatnot."
Loadholt's coaches also know about the difference in Phil's personalities inside and outside of football.
"Phil can yell around and get things started on the field, but, outside of football, he is a very calm kid," said offensive line coach James Patton.

Wherever you see him,

you are meeting one

of the biggest and

nicest individuals at

the Oklahoma.

"He has two different levels of energy that he can throw at you. In practice and on the field for games, he is very intense and gets after it. When it's time for class, he buckles down and turns back into that big teddy bear everyone always sees."
Which Loadholt you see depends on when and where you encounter him. Either way, you are meeting one of the biggest and nicest individuals at the University of Oklahoma.
When he's around, you'll notice.
