MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Boise State defeated the Oklahoma men's tennis team, 4-1, Friday on day one of the Blue-Gray National Classic.

The No. 46 Sooners (5-5) could not recover from two defeats by the No. 35 Broncos in doubles play to begin the match.

No. 41 Clancy Shields and Luke Shields upset No. 28 Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles.  The Broncos followed that up with an 8-4 defeat in No. 2 doubles as Paul Koenke and Eric Roberson defeated Ionut Beleleu and Ryan Thomas.

"We are disappointed in the way that we played today," OU head coach Paul Lockwood said.  "But we can't hang our heads for too long because we have a match tomorrow and we need to come out with a fresh start and play like we know we can."

Sergey Avdeyev and Vlad Marinescu defeated Piotr Dilaj and Steve Robertson, 8-6, in No. 3 doubles.

"I was proud of the way Sergey and Vlad fought and competed the whole match and came away with a victory," added Lockwood.

C. Shields defeated Beleleu at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.  Dilaj defeated Alex Joitoiu at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3.  The victory put the Broncos up 3-0.

Chavarria was the only Sooner to earn a team point in the match as he defeated Koenke at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

No. 27 Daescu was up in his No. 1 singles match before the match was called as Boise State had already won the match, 4-1.
