NORMAN, Okla. - The fifth-ranked Oklahoma wrestling team fell to No. 18 Michigan State Sunday in East Lansing, Mich., 24-14. OU (11-6) wrestled without six starters and three All-Americans. The Sooners won four matches, while receiving bonus points from Witt Durden and Robbie Waller. Michigan State's win brought the all-time series record to 32-8, in OU's favor.

"The bottom line is that we were outmatched in our lineup, " said Head Coach Jack Spates. "The number of guys out of our line-up is a big challenge for us. Derrick Brown turned in a great performance against a former Junior National Champion and Robbie Waller dominated a nationally ranked wrestler. This was just a tough meet and we came out on the short end. We will hopefully regroup for Nebraska and have Josh Lambrecht and Tom Grossman back in the line-up."

Oklahoma's Derrick Brown won his first dual match of the year when he downed Jeff Clemens at 184 pounds in a 5-3 decision. Seniors Witt Durden and Robbie Waller both scored major decisions over their opponents. Durden defeated Michigan State's 133-pound wrestler Shane Martin, 14-6, while Waller shut out Rashad Evans at 174 pounds, 9-0. Oklahoma's other three points came off a decision at 141 pounds when freshman Teyon Ware defeated Ryan L'Amoreaux.

The Sooners, who forfeited 197 pounds, lost the 125-pound battle when No. 8 Bo Maynes was defeated, 3-0, by No. 7 Nick Simmons. Oklahoma lost 149, 157 and 165 pounds to give Michigan State a 15-7 lead. Sophomore Danny Rubenstein lost by a technical fall to No. 11 Karl Nadolsky, 22-7. Michigan State received a major decision at 157 pounds, when No. 6 Gray Maynard bested Sooner Rafael Maturino, 15-6, and Wes Roberts lost by decision to Arsen Aleksanyan, 9-2. Sooner heavyweight Jake Hager, who was wrestling in his fifth collegiate match, was decisioned by No. 19 John Wechter, 4-0.

Oklahoma's will return to the mat Feb. 7, to take on Nebraska at 7 p.m. in the Howard McCasland Field House for the final home duals of the year.
