NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 32-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. Virginia Friday, 5-2, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners (8-3), who entered the match with six straight wins, are only the second team to score two points or more against the Cavaliers (17-0) this season.

"We played a tough match today," said OU head coach John Roddick. "We lost to the team that should be the No. 1 team in the country. We're a really young team and we played well. I'm proud of the guys. I'm disappointed we lost, you can't be happy with that. But if we keep playing like that we aren't going to lose very many."

The undefeated Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point.

The Sooner pair of Costin Paval and Peerakit Siributwong took Sanam Singh and Jarmere Jenkins, 8-5.

Laurentiu Gavrila and Lawrence Formentera forced Julen Uriguen and Steven Eelkman Rooda into a tiebreaker but came up short, 9-8 (8-6).

The Sooners continued to fight, with freshman Tsvetan Mihov defeating Justin Shane at the No. 5 position, 6-4, 7-6 (4), to put Oklahoma on the board.
