October 07, 2004

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma Sooners men’s golf team is No. 17 in the latest GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll released Oct. 7.

Oklahoma dropped one spot from its previous ranking of 16th after an 11th-place finish at the Windon Memorial Classic at the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill. Along with Oklahoma, the field at the Windon included No. 24 Duke, No. 25 Kent State, defending national champions California and five other teams that received votes in the latest poll.

The Windon was won by host Northwestern University.

Big 12 rival Oklahoma State displaced Georgia at No. 1 after their four-stroke victory at the PING/Golfweek Preview. Other Big 12 schools in the poll are No. 5 Texas and vote-getters Kansas and Texas A&M.

The GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the Golf Coaches Association of America. The next GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll will be released Oct. 21.

The Sooners return to the links for their next tournament, The Prestige, in La Quinta, Calif., Wednesday, Nov. 3 through, Thursday, Nov. 4.
