NORMAN, Okla.-- The Oklahoma women’s golf team will travel to Mesa, Ariz., to compete in this weekend’s Clover Cup, hosted by Notre Dame University. The 12-team, 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,209-yard Longbow Golf Club from Friday through Sunday (March 16-18).
The Clover Cup field includes five teams ranked in Golfweek’s top 50 and an additional four teams ranked in the top 100. Other participating teams include No. 15 Colorado, No. 29 Texas Tech, No. 33 Iowa State, No. 35 Tulsa, No. 58 Notre Dame, No. 59 Michigan, No. 69 Florida International, No. 84 Furman, No. 93 Minnesota, Cincinnati and SMU.
The Sooners are coming off of a second-place finish at the Central District Invitational in February. Itmarked the third time in six tournaments this season that OU finished in first or second place.
Competing at the No. 1 position for the fifth time this season will be sophomore Chirapat Jao-Javanil.Jao-Javanil, who shot a career-best 68 in the Central District Invitational first round three weeks ago, is coming off of her second first-place finish of the season. She was named National Golfer of the Week by Golfweek for her performance.
Sophomore Anne-Catherine Tanguay will take the No. 2 position after finishing in a tie for 21st place at the Central District Invitational.
Junior Taylor Schmidt and sophomore Emily Collins, who each tied for 31st in OU’s last event, will start at the No. 3 and 4 positions, respectively.
Junior Jacki Marshall will compete in her fifth tournament of the season and play from the No. 5 position.
Additionally, sophomore Jade Staggs will join the field of 71 golfers and compete as an individual forOU.
The Sooners will tee off on Friday beginning at 10:04 a.m. CT. Each OU golfer will be paired with an opponent from Iowa State and Colorado. Tee times will be assigned for Saturday’s 8 a.m. round, and Sunday’s final 18 holes will commence with shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
