NORMAN, Okla. -- Three members of the University of Oklahoma baseball team, Rocky Cherry, Jason Bartlett and Chris Haggard, were selected in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies took Cherry as fourth pick in the tenth round (No. 290 overall) Tuesday. The junior righthander from Coppell, Texas, was an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection in 2001 after finishing the year with an 8-8 record and a 4.88 earned run average. Five of Cherry's eight wins were against conference teams and his 4.55 ERA and 63.1 innings pitched versus Big 12 competition led the team.

Bartlett was chosen by the San Diego Padres in the 13th round as the 390th overall pick Tuesday. The Lodi, Calif., product started every game this season on his way to earning All-Big 12 honorable mention accolades. The Sooners' senior third baseman finished the year with a .282 batting average but committed just five errors in conference games and saved his best play until the Big 12 Tournament. Bartlett hit .500 (8-for-16) in the tourney and was selected to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. Bartlett was a member of the 2000 All-Big 12 first team as well.

Haggard was selected in the 50th round by the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday. The junior from Tulsa, Okla., who started 20 games this year for OU, is known for his defensive skills behind the plate.
