NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men's basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a 75-64 victory over Northern State Tuesday in the Sooners' lone exhibition game before the beginning of regular season competition.

Trailing 55-51, the Sooners, who have nine newcomers this year, used a 24-9 run over the final 7:23 to notch the 11-point victory.

OU's top three returners from last year, Cade Davis, Andrew Fitzgerald and Steven Pledger, combined for 50 of the team's 75 points (67 percent), including 33 of the squad's 46 in the second half.  The trio also added 15 rebounds and five assists.

Pledger came off the bench to score a game-high 23 points (18 after halftime) on 7-for-12 field goal and 8-for-10 free throw shooting in his 28 minutes.  In stark contrast to last year, six of Pledger's seven field goal makes were from two-point range.

Davis finished with 14 points, four assists and no turnovers while Fitzgerald recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Freshman guard Cameron Clark led OU's newcomers in scoring with nine points, while junior forward Nick Thompson recorded eight rebounds.  Freshman guard Calvin Newell came off the bench to supply six points, all in the second half, four assists and four steals without committing a turnover. Sophomore transfer Carl Blair handed out a game-high eight assists in 21 minutes.

The Sooners trailed Northern State 33-29 at the break after the Wolves put together a 9-2 run in the final four minutes of the first half.  OU shot just 33.3 percent from the field (10-for-30) in the first 20 minutes, 26.7 percent behind the arc (4-for-15) and 50.0 percent from the free throw line (5-for-10).

The Sooners were much better in the second half, posting a 55.6 percent mark from the floor and a 76.2 percent figure from the foul line (16-for-21).

Northern State had four players score in double figures. Tom Parks led the Wolves with 13 points while David Lane and Tydan Storrusten netted 11 each and Collin Pryor 10.  NSU was 5-for-9 from 3-point range in the first half but just 1-for-11 in the second.

Oklahoma, which trailed 20-18 on the boards at halftime, finished the game with a 40-32 rebounding advantage.  Both teams  had issues taking care of the ball, with Northern State racking up 22 turnovers and OU committing 17.

The Sooners begin their regular season Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. CT with a home game against Coppin State. OU has won 77 of its last 79 home non-conference games and is 13-0 all-time against Coppin State.
