IRVING, Texas -- Oklahoma's Aaryn Ellenberg was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Monday.
Ellenberg averaged 26 points and four rebounds while shooting 53 percent (10 of 19) from 3-point range in Oklahoma’s two victories last week.
The Las Vegas native scored a game-leading 24 points against Texas Tech on Jan. 19, handing the Lady Raiders their first Big 12 loss. Ellenberg scored 15 points in the first 13 minutes of the second period, helping turn OU’s two-point halftime deficit into a 13-point lead. The guard made four on nine 3-point attempts and eight of nine free throws while grabbing six rebounds, one shy of her single-game best.
Ellenberg also led scoring in OU’s win at Kansas Sunday with 28 points. Ellenberg made her first five 3-pointers and scored 21 in the first half as OU built its lead en route to a fifth straight victory.
Texas A&M’s Danielle Adams, who averaged 29.5 points and 12 rebounds in two games, was the Big 12 Player of the Week.
Ellenberg and the No. 13 Sooners hosts Adams and No. 6 Texas A&M at the Lloyd Noble Center Wednesday in a battle for a share of first place in the Big 12 Conference standings. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
