OU Women's Gymnastics Team Overtakes Texas Woman's

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team opened its season against Texas Women's University tonight in Denton, Texas. The Sooners earned their first victory of the year by defeating the Pioneers 191.425 to 188.150.

Oklahoma opened their road competition with a strong performance by garnering the top spots in all but one event. Senior Amber McCracken and redshirt-freshman Leticia Ishii dominated the competition by placing in the top three in four events each. McCracken won the all-around title with a score of 38.875. Ishii placed second while newcomer Patricia Aoki finished third with scores of 38.675 and 37.775, respectively.

McCracken continued her victory spree as she finished first in the floor and vault competitions. Ishii tied OU's Michelle Gonzaga for second place in the floor exercise (9.700) and on the vault (9.775). Aoki claimed her first uneven bars title with a score of 9.650.

The Sooners are on the road again next Saturday, Jan. 22, against Illinois-Chicago. Then OU is back at home Jan. 28 for its second meeting against Texas Woman's in a joint meet with the men's gymnastics team. Both women's competitions are set to begin at 7 p.m.
