In singles action, the Sooners had strong performances, winning five of six matches in straight sets.  Fukala defeated Jason LaBrosse, 6-3, 6-1, going 3-0 in the tournament and ending the fall season with a record of 7-5.  Gregg overcame Nate Cochran, 7-6, 6-2, giving him a record of 11-6 for the fall.  Tanasoiu ended the fall season when he defeated Tim Mullane, 6-4, 6-3, earning him a fall record of 9-3.  Garrison won a hard fought match against Francois VanDermewe, 7-5, 7-6(2).  Chavarria earned his second win of the tournament when he swept Mitchell Brown, 6-0, 6-0.

OU tennis continues to move in the right direction.  OU sophomore Marek Velicka won the prestigous Region V ITA singles championship. Velicka defeated three ranked opponents to earn the esteemed title, including 13th ranked Mark Van Elden of Oklahoma State.

“I was very pleased with the fall,” said Sooner head coach Paul Lockwood.  “All the players made a lot of improvement from week to week.  Marek Velicka had an outstanding fall and is probably going to shoot up in the rankings next semester.  I also think we improved our doubles combination and I think individually each player had some good results and we should improve our national ranking to start the spring next year.”
