Norman, Okla. - University of Oklahoma head mens basketball coach Kelvin Sampson announced today the hiring of Dan Shell as administrative assistant. Shell replaces Scott Raines, who served in the same capacity the past two seasons before being named assistant coach at Midland (Texas) Junior College last month.

A 1998 graduate of the University of California-Berkeley who earned a degree in economics, Shell spent the 1998-99 season as the mens basketball administrative assistant at Pepperdine University and worked this past summer in the same role at Saint Louis University.

I think one of the most important facets of the job of administrative assistant is having vision on the little things associated with basketball operations, said Sampson. I think thats what Dan brings and hell be a valuable addition to our staff.

A Los Angeles native, Shell served as Skyline High Schools assistant varsity boys coach in Oakland, Calif., during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons, and was the Skyline junior varsity boys head coach for the 1997-98 campaign. Shell was also a sports writer and columnist for the Daily Californian school newspaper at Cal, and covered local high school and collegiate sporting events for the Oakland Tribune while in college.
