Norman, Okla. -- The 20th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a round of 289 to move into fifth place after two rounds of play at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R. The Sooners ended second-round action with an overall score of 590 (+14) and are 11 shots behind No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Georgia Tech who sit on top of the leader board at 579 (+3).
Individually, each of the Sooner golfers either remained consistent with their game or showed much improvement. Junior Cody Freeman continued his steady play with a round of 73. He is currently tied for ninth place at 145 (+1) and seven shots off the lead. One shot back is freshman Martin Flores, who was equally consistent by carding his second 73 of the tournament to stand tied for 12th at 146 (+2).
After a tough first round, two OU sophomores bounced back on the second day of action. Matt Cohn led the Sooners today firing a 71 and is tied for 28th with a score of 149 (+5). John Kidwell shot his best round of the spring with an even-par 72 (seven shots better than his first-round 79). Kidwell is tied for 40th with a score of 151. One shot behind Kidwell is junior J.D. Robertson, who rounded out the scores for OU by shooting a 74 to stand tied for 43rd.
OU will begin its final round at the Puerto Rico Classic when the Sooners tee off at 7:30 a.m. (AST) Tuesday morning at the Rio Mar Country Club.
