NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma men’s golf team shot its best round of the season Friday, an 18-under-par 270 to extend its lead to nine strokes over second-place TCU at the 15-team Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz. All six competing OU golfers shot under par and five Sooners are currently in the top 15, including co-leader Abraham Ancer.
The Sooners, who shot a 274 (-14) in Thursday’s opening round, carry a two-round total of 544 (-32).
“The boys played great today and we have put ourselves right where we need to be.” said OU head coach Ryan Hybl. “We are going to stay aggressive and get after it tomorrow.”
Ancer, who is tied for the lead with BYU’s Zachary Blair, shot a career-low 66 for the second straight round. The sophomore stands in a three-stroke lead with a 36-hole score of 132 (-12).
Three strokes behind Ancer is teammate Eduardo Castiello with a 9-under 135. The Mexico native carded a second-round 67 (-5) to finish the day in a tie for third place.

Freshman Michael Schoolcraft shot a 69 (-3) and sits in a tie for 31st place with a 36-hole total of 142 (-2).
Sophomore Will Kropp, who is competing as an individual, shot a 68 (-4) and is tied for 10th place with a total of 138 (-6).
The Sooners tee off for the final round of the 54-hole Desert Shootout Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 9:30 CT. Live scoring is not available for this tournament, but final results will be posted on Soonersports.com.
