Tulsa, Okla. -

Oklahoma defeated host Oral Roberts, 2-1, at the ORU soccer complex in Tulsa on Sunday night, improving to 2-0 on the season.

ORU went up early when a shot by Jessica Kellog sailed past OU goalkeeper Catherine Wade at 4:28 in the first period to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma freshman Becky Nelson, a product of Union High School in Tulsa, evened the score at 19:56 with an unassisted blast to the left side of ORU's box.

"I was thrilled with how we came back," said Oklahoma head coach Randy Evans. "ORU attacked us with so much energy in the opening minutes. We came back and tied it. I was pleased with our resolve."

Seven minutes later, OU's Kristen Vesely, a freshman from Phoenix, Ariz., popped the ball to Shannon Wing and the senior scored the game winner on a header past ORU goalkeeper Kellie Fenton at 26:57.

"It was a brilliant goal," said Evans. "Shannon had a great run and it was well executed."

The Sooners took the 2-1 lead into halftime and maintained the advantage through the end of the second period.

OU compiled 22 shots in the game with 10 on goal but missed several chances to score in the second half. ORU finished with 10 shots and five on goal.

Oklahoma goalkeeper Catherine Wade had four saves in the win for the Sooners.

"I'm happy with many things we did," said Evans. "But this is the beginning of the season and we still have some things to work on."

Oklahoma travels to Springfield, Mo. for its next game against Drury at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. The Sooners' first home match at John Crain Field will be against SMU on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
