NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma and head soccer coach Nicole Nelson announced the Sooners' 2008 signing class on Thursday, Feb. 7. Nelson inked six recruits to National Letters of Intent for the 2008 season, her first in Norman after being hired on Dec. 21, 2007.

Three of the signees hail from the state of Texas, two from California and one from Arizona.

"This is an exciting day for Sooner Soccer," said Nelson. "I am very pleased with the overall quality of the 2008 class.  This group is balanced in terms of adding depth in every position and I believe that a number of these players have the ability to come in and contribute immediately.  They have the physical attributes to compete at this level and are currently playing for established clubs that do a good job of teaching the game.  We expect this class to help leverage our program toward a successful 2008 season,"

The coaching staff added talent across the field, starting with two defenders in Jordan King and Kelsey Kraft.  King is a standout at McKinney High School in Texas where she was named to the 2005 All-State tournament team.  Kraft, who can also play the forward position, scored five goals last season for Santa Margarita Catholic High School in California.  Kraft led her team to conference titles in 2005 and 2006.

Oklahoma will look to Danielle Digeralamo and Michelle Alexander to provide depth in the Sooner midfield.  Digeralamo led Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif., in assists and points in 2006.  She was also named the conference defender of the year that same season.  Alexander was voted Clements High School's most athletic female last year after lettering in soccer, cross country, track and field and volleyball.  Alexander is a member of the South Texas State Olympic Development Program.

At the forward position, Abbey Golliher and Jordan White could help bolster OU's scoring attack in 2008.  Golliher was an all-region honoree in the field and in the classroom last season at Southlake Carroll High School in Texas.  She also led the 2006 team in goals scored.

Finally, White is the lone player in the class that did not compete at the high school level.  However, the Chandler, Ariz., native has had extensive success on the club level leading three teams to seven state titles.  White is also a member of the Arizona State Olympic Development Program and was part of the 2005 and 2006 Region IV ODP pool.

"We are ecstatic by the late addition of Jordan to this 2008 class," added Nelson. "We are fortunate that a player of her quality was available this late in the process.  We expect her to add another dimension to our front line as she contributes to our ability to score goals."

The 2008 newcomers will join an Oklahoma team that returns seven starters from 2007 and finished 6-10-3 overall and 2-7-1 in Big 12 play.  Included in that group is 2007 Big 12 All-Newcomer honoree Whitney Palmer, who led the Sooners in scoring as a freshman last season.
