NORMAN, Okla. - The OU women's soccer team clinched a berth in the Big 12 Tournament by defeating Oklahoma State for the first time ever on Friday as junior Krissy Dawson scored both Sooner goals in a 2-1 overtime victory. The game, held at the OU Soccer Complex, drew an OU-record crowd of 1,325. The Sooners tied the school record for wins in a season and improved to 10-6-1 on the year and 4-5-1 in the Big 12. Oklahoma State fell to 7-10-1 and 2-7-1 in the conference.

The Cowgirls took the lead just 4:01 into the match when Leah Carr headed a corner kick from Nikki Wotjowicz into the net. Oklahoma tied the score at one after Dawson took a midfield pass from freshman Kirstin Karfonta and scored high from 30 yards out. The assist was Karfonta's first point of the year.

OSU, playing a man down due to a first-half red card, was able to hold off the Sooners until the fourth minute of the first overtime. Dawson, after being fouled, scored on a direct kick, again from 30 yards out.

Oklahoma State, despite being outshot 26-5, received a stellar performance from goalkeeper Kat Doud (10 saves). Freshman Catherine Wade had to make just one save and picked up the victory for the Sooners.

"With their defensive attack keyed in on Logan (Womack), we needed a second scorer to step up and Krissy (Dawson) did just that," said OU Head Coach Randy Evans. "I was proud of the way the team capitalized after OSU's first goal. It's great for the players to be able to win with an atmosphere and crowd like this tonight."

"One of the first things going through my mind after the (second) goal was how I was able to help get this win for the seniors," said forward Dawson. "This victory was for them."

Oklahoma's victory over Oklahoma State means the Sooners move into a tie with OSU in the Bank of Oklahoma Bedlam Series presented by Your Oklahoma Ford Dealers. Thus far during the 2001-02 series, OU has posted a victory in soccer while OSU prevailed in cross country.

This is the second year for Bank of Oklahoma to be the title sponsor and Your Oklahoma Ford Dealers to be the presenting sponsor of the Bedlam Series. The Sooners and Cowboys annually meet head-to-head in eight sports. The series winner in each of these sports is awarded the Bank of Oklahoma Bedlam Bell traveling trophy. At the end of the year, an overall winner is announced.

Oklahoma will close out the regular season with a home game on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Arkansas. OU, seeded sixth in the Big 12 Tournament, will play third-seeded Texas A&M next Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio.
