OU Women Golfers Tied for First in New Mexico

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma women's golf team shot a first-round 293 (+5) at the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M., and is tied with Florida State for first place heading into the second round. The Sooners recorded their best single-day total of the season and are seven strokes ahead of third-place Texas Tech and Louisiana State.

The 16-team field is playing at the 6,319-yard, par-72 University Golf Course.

All five of the Sooner golfers are in the top 20 after first-round play. Seniors Lisa Meldrum and Hope Edge are tied for third after recording a 72 (E) Monday and trail the leader by two strokes. Freshman Jaclyn Stelzer, competing in only her second collegiate tournament, is tied for 10th after carding a two-over-par 74. Sophomore Amparo Gala shot a 75 (+3) to tie for 13th place while junior Emily Milberger is tied for 20th with a 76 (+4). Freshman Alana Donaldson is competing as an individual and is tied for 64th after shooting an 81 (+9).

In yesterday's practice round, Stelzer shot two hole-in-ones. She shot her first one on the 133-yard, No. 8 hole, and her second on the 154-yard, No. 11 hole.

Oklahoma will resume play at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday and the tournament concludes Wednesday.
