NORMAN, Okla. - The Unversity of Oklahoma women's golf team improved from 13th place to 11th after Monday's second-round 309 (+21) in the 16-team Lady Puerto Rico Classic.  The Sooners recorded eight fewer strokes Monday than they did in Sunday's opening round.

Senior Kendall Dye continued to pace the Sooners with a second-round 76 (+4), placing her in a ninth-place tie.  She sits just two strokes out of first place.

Eight shots behind Dye in 33rd place is classmate Staci Smoot, who carded a 77 (+5) Monday.  Sophomore Ellen Mueller stands in 39th place, one stroke behind Smoot, after firing a 2-over-par 74.

"I am very pleased with Ellen's comeback, that is more like her," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said of the sophomore golfer who shot was 12 over par following Sunday's round.  "Kendall had a difficult day but I know she will be able to make some putts tomorrow and be par or better."

Andrea Sellmeyer shot a second-round 82 while fellow junior Chelsey Collins rounded out the team scoring with an 88.  Brooke Collins' individual score of 84 (+12) landed her in a tie for 65th place heading into the final 18.

"We need to concentrate on targets and be attentive on our lag putts," Ludvigson said.  "The team feels good about tomorrow, and if we hit our goal of 305 or better we will pass many teams that are currently ranked ahead of us."

The Sooners stand even with fellow Big 12 member Iowa State and just two strokes outside of a top-10 position.  Tournament host Purdue is in first place by 10 shots over Georgia.  The final round in Puerto Rico begins Tuesday morning at 7:30.
