NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team remains in eighth place after the second round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.  The Sooners carded a 309 Saturday at the 6,324-yard University of Texas Golf Course.
The windy conditions did not sway OU, as it maintains its lead over several top-50 ranked teams, including No. 35 Texas A&M, No. 44 Furman, No. 46 South Carolina, No. 20 Arizona and No. 42 UCF.
“The good thing is that even though we didn’t play well as a team, we still didn’t lose ground on where we sit as a team,” OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said.
Ellen Mueller stepped up her game by firing a two-under-par 70, a new career-low for the sophomore.  Mueller now claims the sixth spot in the tournament, five strokes back of first, after she birdied three holes on the front side and eagled once on the back nine.
“We had a rough day, but Ellen had a fantastic day shooting two under,” Ludvigson said.  “Kelly and Ryanne really started well and played some of the hardest holes so well today, but they were very disappointed in their finish.”
Senior Kendall Dye posted a 78 and now stands tied for 23rd, just four strokes out of the top 10.  Freshman Kelly Short fired a second round 80 and stands tied for 61st, while junior Ryanne Elmer tied for 67th with an 81.  Senior Staci Smoot shares 88th place with her second round 88.
“Tomorrow it will be crucial for us to play smart, play percentage shots and continue to pay close attention to the wind,” Ludvigson said.  “We look forward to a good finish.”
Final round of the Betsy Rawls will start Sunday at 8:45 a.m. CDT with live scoring at
