Sooner Wrestling Advances Four Into Big 12 Finals

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Oklahoma wrestling team advanced four wrestlers into the finals of the Big 12 Wrestling Championships in Columbia, Mo., at the Hearnes Center tonight at 7 p.m. The Sooners will send Bo Maynes (125 pounds), Witt Durden (133 pounds), Teyon Ware (141 pounds) and Robbie Waller (174 pounds).

Oklahoma grappled three wrestlers in the opening round of the tournament. Sophomore Danny Rubenstein was defeated in an 8-3 decision at 149 pounds by Iowa State's Nate Gallick. At 165 pounds, sophomore Wes Roberts lost to Nick Passalano by a score of 7-5, and in the heavyweight battle redshirt-freshman Jake Hager lost a 6-1 tiebreaker match to Nebraska's Mitch Mandstedt.

Maynes, a senior, advanced to the 125-pound finals with a win over Iowa State's Grant Nakamura, 6-1. Fellow senior Durden also advanced to the finals of 133 pounds by beating Iowa State's Zach Roberson, 11-8. Freshman Ware decisioned Dusty Spaulding of Nebraska, 12-6, at 141 pounds. Junior Rafael Maturino lost at 157 pounds to Kenny Burleson of Missouri, 5-3.

Oklahoma senior Robbie Waller defeated 174-pound Travis Pascoe of Nebraska, 7-2, to advance to the finals. Senior Josh Lambrecht was defeated at 184 pounds by Oklahoma State's Jake Rosholt, 6-1, while fellow senior Tom Grossman was also defeated by a wrestler from Oklahoma State. Grossman was downed by Muhammed Lawal in a 10-2 major decision.

The consolation round will begin at 4 p.m. at the Hearnes Center with the finals beginning at 7 p.m.
