NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team stands in ninth place after Monday's first 36 holes of the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla.  OU carded a 309 and 298 in the first and second rounds, respectively, at the 6,099-yard, par-72 River Wilderness Country Club.

The Sooners head into Tuesday's final round just one stroke behind eighth-place Kent State and just six strokes out of the top five.

Oklahoma leads three ranked squads (No. 41 Texas, No. 42 South Carolina and No. 45 Michigan) and stands in front of Big 12 teams Iowa State, Kansas and Missouri.

OU senior Staci Smoot paced the Sooners on the day and is in a tie for eighth place after shooting rounds of 73 and 75.  She came from behind in the second round to pass sophomore teammate Ellen Mueller by just one stroke.  Mueller carded an even-par first round and followed with a second-round 77 to finish the day tied in 14th place.

"We had a good performance from Staci and Ellen this morning," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said.  "But the team really stepped it up this afternoon and made some great decisions to help save us shots.

Senior Kendall Dye carded a first-round 80 and made a comeback in the second round by shooting even par to end the day within the top 30.

Junior Andrea Sellmeyer scored rounds of 84 and 75 and is tied for 55th place, while freshman Kelly Short carded an 86 and a 76 to stand in 65th place.

"What really helped us was the steady play of Staci and the comeback of Kendall, Andrea and Kelly," Ludvigson said  "It truly was a team day today.  We are ready for tomorrow and hope to get into the top six, at least, and just have a good finish by beating as many teams that are ranked ahead of us as possible."

Tuesday's final round will start at 8 a.m. ET.  Live scoring of the Central District Invitational is available at www.golfstat.com.
