NORMAN, Okla. -- On Sunday, Aug. 21, Oklahoma welcomes Tennessee (1-0) to Norman for just the second meeting in the series. The Sooners and Lady Vols are scheduled for a 1 p.m. game. On Friday afternoon, the Lady Vols posted a 2-1 victory at Kansas in overtime. The game-winning goal from Tennessee came off a penalty kick in the 98th minute.
On Friday in Norman, five different Sooners scored as OU posted an impressive 5-0 victory in the 2011 season opener over Alabama at Birmingham in front of 1,026 fans at John Crain Field. Zoe Dickson gave OU a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute that they would pile on to throughout the game. Michelle Alexander, Dria Hampton, Kelsey Kraft and Caitlin Mooney also found the back of the net in the contest.
Tennessee returns seven starters from the 2010 team that finished third in the SEC East with a 7-3-1 record and a 10-9-1 overall mark. The Lady Vols return their leading scorer from 2010 in midfielder/forward Chelsea Hatcher. The senior had eight goals and four assists last season off 105 shots.
The Sooners are 0-1 all-time against the Lady Volunteers. In 2003, OU made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament and dropped a 1-0 decision to then-No. 7 Tennessee in Knoxville. In their 2011 exhibition game, the Lady Vols tied Samford at home.
Tickets are available ($8 adult and $5 youth) at the OU Athletic Ticket Office on Asp Avenue (Monday through Friday), by phone at 800-456-GoOU, at the gate of the OU Soccer Complex on gameday or by visiting online.
