Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma baseball Home Run Club is hosting its 2001 Golf Tournament, Fri., May 4, at the OU Jimmie Austin Golf Course. Former major league and current Oklahoma baseball players and coaches will be in attendance at the event. The format for the tournament is a four or five person scramble with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
The cost is $125 and includes green fees, cart, practice balls, lunch, a shirt and door prizes. Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and a lunch will be served for all golfers at the conclusion of the tournament.
Prizes will be given to the first, second and third-place teams as well as for the longest drive, closest to the hole, nearest to the line and for a hole in one. For more information, call Elton Davis at (405) 321-3970 or the Oklahoma baseball office at (405) 325-8354.
Home Run Club Away Trips: The Home Run Club has also designated several away games this season as packaged deals for Oklahoma baseball fans. The club will be travelling as a group by charter bus to selected away games and invites any fans to join them.
Headlining the away events is the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State Bedlam Clash the weekend of May 11. The bus will depart Norman at 2:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. Friday night game at Tulsa's Driller's Stadium. The cost is $20 and for an additional $20, a Bar-B-Q dinner and ticket to the game will be provided.
For both Bedlam games at the Southwestern Bell Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Saturday and Sunday, the cost is $10 for each game, with a $10 picnic lunch available for the Saturday tilt. The bus departs Norman at 11 a.m. on Saturday and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both game times are scheduled for 2 p.m.
The first trip selected is Oklahoma's game against nationally-ranked Arizona State at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Wed., April 18. The cost is $10 and the bus leaves Norman at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. game start.
The Home Run Club will also take another mid-week away trip on Tues., April 24, to the Tulsa World Baseball Bash at Driller's Stadium in Tulsa. Oklahoma will face Oral Roberts at 8 p.m., following the Oklahoma State-Arkansas game at 4:30 p.m. The cost for this trip is $20 and a ticket with a hamburger/hot dog cookout meal is an additional $16. The bus departs Norman at 2:30 p.m. and the cookout is scheduled from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
