Women's Golf Headed To Sunshine State

The No. 13 Oklahoma women’s golf team will compete in its second tournament of the spring at the SunTrust Lady Gator Golf Invitational March 7-9 in Gainesville, Fla.  The tournament, hosted by the University of Florida, will be played at the 5,773-yard, par-70 University of Florida Golf Course.
Starters for the Sooners include freshman Alana Donaldson, senior Hope Edge, sophomore Amparo Gala, senior Lisa Meldrum and junior Emily Milberger.  Sophomore Cathryn Uselton will also be competing as an individual for OU.  It is Donaldson’s first tournament start since playing last October at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate.

The three-day event is formatted with 18 holes each day beginning at 8 a.m. (EST).
The tournament will feature nine teams that are ranked in the top-25 and includes seven of the top-10 individual golfers in the country.

The 15-team field includes No. 1 Duke, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 8 Auburn, No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 15 Florida, No. 17 Michigan State, No. 22 Tennessee, Arkansas, Central Florida, Purdue, South Florida and Virginia.

OU Takes Third Place At Lady Puerto Rico Classic
The Oklahoma women’s golf team completed their first tournament of the spring and finished in third place with a three-round total of 888 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  The Sooners’ tournament total tied a team-low this season.    It marked the fifth time this season OU has finished in the top five.
Oklahoma competed against a 15-team field that included 10 top-25 teams.  The Sooners finished behind No. 1 Duke and No. 5 Georgia.

For the fourth time this season OU had four of its golfers finish in the top-25.  Sophomore Amparo Gala was the team’s top performer after carding a career-best 220 to finish in eighth place.  Finishing one stroke behind was junior Emily Milberger who finished tied for ninth.  Senior Hope Edge recorded a 222 to tie for 13th while fellow senior Lisa Meldrum tied for 25th with a tournament total of 226.  Freshman Jaclyn Stelzer finished in 58th place for a total of 226.

Amparo Gala:  Top-finishing Sooner at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic where she earned eighth-place honors with a career-low 220 ... Carded a 226 to tie for 22nd in the Las Vegas Showdown ... Lisa Meldrum:  Leading all Big 12 golfers in stroke average ...  Recovering from month-long battle with mononucleosis ... Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September ... Currently ranked as the No. 13 golfer in the nation according to Golfweek ... Finished in the top five of every fall tournament ...  Tied for 25th with a 226 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in February ... Averaging a team-low 72.72 strokes per round.

Emily Milberger:   Shot a 221 and tied for ninth place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic ... Tied for 18th in Las Vegas Showdown with a 224 ... Set season-bests at the Kent Youel Invitational after carding a three-round 222 to tie for fifth place  ... Carded a 226 and tied for 17th at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate ...
