NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team will travel to Dallas, Texas, this week to participate in the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Baylor University on Monday and Tuesday.
The par-71, 7,068-yard course at Royal Oaks Country Club will be the site for the third-year tournament. Thirty-six holes will be played Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
"We are looking forward to going down to Royal Oaks and I know the boys are excited," said OU head coach Ryan Hybl. "We have had a couple weeks of no competition and we are eager to get back on the course."
Ranked No. 50 by Golfstat, OU will face a 12-team field that features four squads ranked in the top 20: No. 10 Arkansas, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 17 Iowa and No. 19 Texas Tech.
In addition to No. 40 Baylor, the field will also include No. 49 New Mexico, No. 57 UNLV, No. 60 Lamar, No. 72 SMU, No. 78 Penn State and No. 96 Long Beach State.
This will mark OU's third trip to the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, which was formerly called the Baylor Intercollegiate. The Sooners finished second in 2008 and ninth last year. Texas A&M won the team title each of those years.
Seniors Liam Logan and Ryan Sirman will accompany junior Riley Pumphrey and sophomores Abraham Ancer and Will Kropp in the OU lineup in Dallas. Pumphrey finished second overall in the 2008 event.
Hybl has also entered freshman Eduardo Castiello as an individual competitor.
Freshman Michael Schoolcraft, one of OU's top early season performers, will not participate this week due to illness.
After fourth- and 10th-place finishes in OU's first two tournaments this fall, Hybl hopes his team will play with consistency and a high level of execution.
"We have not been able to finish strong yet this year," said Hybl. "I am looking for our guys to compete coming down the stretch and execute when opportunities present themselves."
The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate will start Monday at 8:30 a.m. CT. Each day's results will be posted here on SoonerSports.com. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
