NORMAN, Okla., -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team (15-9, 2-1 Big 12) took two games from No. 14/15 Texas A&M (19-9, 2-4 Big 12) on Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners, opening their Big 12 Conference schedule, won game one, 2-0, and game two, 3-2.
In game one, Steven Guerra (3-1) pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and two walks. Guerra allowed just .109 hitting.
OU scored both of its runs in the eighth. Kody Kaiser scored Russell Raley with a double that banged off the top of the right field fence and then Ryan Rohlinger’s sacrifice fly to center scored Kaiser two batters later.
In game two, the Sooners had to rally from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to capture their second win of the day.
The Aggies took the early lead, scoring one run in the first inning.
Leadoff-hitter Travis Bartek singled his first offer to right field and advanced to second on Parker Dalton’s sacrifice bunt. Bartek then stole third and scored on a Cliff Pennington single to left.
The Sooners answered in the bottom of the second as Rohlinger scored from a Kevin Smith sacrifice grounder.
In the eighth, pinch runner Jeff Scuderi scored off Chuckie Caufield sacrifice fly for the tie and Russell Raley singled the next at-bat to score Jackson Williams.
John Brownell registered his first career win as a Sooner. The junior transfer relieved Brad Burns for the final three innings, allowing three hits and two walks during his stint.
Raley, currently in a six-game hitting streak, batted 6-for-12 over the three-game series, scoring three runs and driving in two more.
Oklahoma opened conference play with its first series win since sweeping a three-game set with Missouri in 2002.
