NORMAN, Okla.--  Four members of the No. 31 University of Oklahoma women's golf team were among 33 student-athletes named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Golf Team, the league office announced Wednesday. All four OU honorees were first-team selections.

Of the conference's 33 golfers who made the first or second team, OU junior Taylor Schmidt was one of three with a 4.0 grade point average. Schmidt is a human relations major from Kincardine, Onario.

Oklahoma senior Brooke Collins, a multidisciplinary studies major, was also awarded first-team honors after being named to the second team in 2011.

Sophomore communication major Emily Collins and sophomore accounting major Anne-Catherine Tanguay made the academic all-conference squad for the first time.

"I'm really proud of Brooke, Taylor, Anne-Catherine and Emily," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. "This team takes school seriously and these young ladies definitely are a true example of being a student-athlete. They all perform well on and off the golf course. The team sets high academic goals every year and I'm proud they are able to meet these goals. For four out of our five golfers who met the requirements for being eligible for the award to actually win it says a lot about the academic standards we have at the University of Oklahoma."

To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulatively or over the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. First-team members have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team includes those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

The Oklahoma women's golf program has produced at least three Academic All-Big 12 selections in 15 of the conference's 16 seasons.

The Sooners are in action this Sunday when they host Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Cup. The match-play event will be held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
