NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma wrestling team (16-3-1, 2-2-1 Big 12) will enter the postseason ranked unanimously in the top 10. The Sooners are slotted No. 8 by the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 9 by InterMat.
Additionally, a season-high nine Sooners are individually ranked by InterMat. Joining the list for the first week this season is 133-pound true-freshman Kendric Maple, ranked No. 19. The Wichita, Kan., product competed in his first dual on Jan. 2 after dropping a weight class and has since become a staple in the Oklahoma lineup.
Leading all Sooners are third-ranked Zack Bailey and Kyle Terry at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Also slotted in the top 10 is No. 6 Eric Lapotsky competing at 197 pounds. Shane Vernon is twelfth at 157 pounds, Jarrod Patterson is slotted No. 13 at 125 pounds and heavyweight Nathan Fernandez is ranked No. 14.
Rounding out ranked Sooners are No. 15 Tyler Caldwell at 165 pounds and 174-pound Jeff James, ranked seventeenth.
