Lurie Named to Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team

NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma senior Craig Lurie was named to the 2005 Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Golf Team announced by the conference today.

Lurie, a native of Houston, Texas, was the lone Sooner of 23 to earn a spot on the league’s scholastic squad. It is his first time to garner the award.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices, the men’s golf academic all-league squad consisted of 14 first team members combined with nine on the second team.  First team members include those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Four of OU's seven active players are in their first year of academic residence.
The student-athletes on the academic teams will participate in the 2005 Big 12 Conference Men’s Golf Championship scheduled for April 29-May 1 at the Whispering Pines Golf Course in Trinity, Texas.
Texas is the three-time defending league champion after posting an 864 total last year.  In the eight previous league championships, Oklahoma State and Texas have captured three league titles each, followed by Kansas and Baylor with one apiece.

Oklahoma finished second to the Longhorns last season, its best finish in the conference tournament since the Big 12 was formed during the 1996-97 academic year. (OU also tied for second in 2001.)

Sophomore Anthony Kim, winner of OU’s most recent competitionthe inaugural Texas A&M Invitational, is the only Sooner in this year’s lineup that played in the Big 12 Championship last season. Kim finished second to Texas’ Jason Hartwick in the 2004 edition of the Big 12 Championship.
