NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma men’s golf senior Nick Sheedy shot 67 on Monday at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas, to earn a spot in the U.S. Open sectional qualifying tournament to be held June 4 in Columbus, Ohio.
The Burlington, Iowa, native will play one of three courses OSU Scarlet Course, Scioto Country Club or the Double Eagle Club looking to earn a spot in the 156-player U.S. Open field, held June14-17 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.
The number of players in the Columbus, Ohio, sectional qualifying field, as well as the number of players earning spots into the U.S. Open, will be decided by the USGA once all local qualifying events have ended.
Joining Sheedy in advancing to sectional qualifying was former OU golfer Chris Cureton, who also shot 67. Cureton played for the Sooners from 1999-2001. Also advancing from the Richardson, Texas, local qualifying event were Luke Lane (Fort Worth, Texas), Chris Weeler (Allen, Texas), Dustin Risdon (Canada) and Matt Weibring (Cleveland, Ohio).
