NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 1 Oklahoma men's gymnastics team (8-0) will take on No. 12 Nebraska (2-4) on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Lincoln, Neb. Meet time is set for 4 p.m. at the Devaney Sports Center.
The Sooners have defeated the Huskers twice this season, once at home on Feb. 2 and at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 25. OU is being led by junior Daniel Furney, who qualified for the U.S. National Gymnastics Team on Feb. 9 at the Winter Cup Challenge. Furney ranks second in both the all-around and parallel bars and is tied for ninth on the pommel horse nationally. Sophomore Jock Stevens has been a mainstay for OU as well, ranking first on both the floor exercise and vault.
Nebraska posted its two victories over Army and Air Force at the Rocky Mountain Open. The Huskers have fallen to Oklahoma and Iowa twice and to Michigan and Illinois as well. Nebraska leads the all-time series with OU, 28-21-1, dating back to 1964, but Oklahoma has won the last seven meetings. This weekend will mark NU's first home meet of the season.
"I plan on giving Daniel Furney and David Johnston a rest this weekend and allow a few of the other guys to show me what they can do in a meet situation," said OU head coach Mark Williams. "It may affect our team total a little bit, but I feel we're a strong enough team to handle anything Nebraska has for us."
