NORMAN, Okla. - The OU women's soccer team showed balance Friday night as four players registered goals in the Sooners' 4-0 victory over Kansas in front of 523 fans at the OU Soccer Complex. The game was the Big 12 Conference opener for both squads. Oklahoma improved to 6-3 overall while Kansas dropped to 4-5.

Sophomore forward Shannon Wing and freshman forward Logan Womack each registered a goal and an assist and Jana Cunningham recorded her second shutout of the year to lead Oklahoma to its fourth consecutive victory. Cunningham (4-2) picked up the win, her fourth straight, while KU's Sarah Gonzalez took the loss, falling to 4-5.

Junior forward Jonette Coquat opened the Sooners' scoring at 26:29 when she netted the ball off her own corner kick. Later in the first half, Womack scored unassisted on a breakaway in the 39th minute.

Oklahoma made it 3-0 at 52:12 when Megan Olsen notched her first goal of the year as she scored from 25 yards out from the left side off a pass from Wing. OU's fourth score came in the final five mintues of the game when Wing tallied her second goal of the season. She was assisted by Heather Martinelli and Womack.

"I really thought the team took it to the next level tonight," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans. "I was especially pleased with the way we were able to put Kansas away. That was something we were lacking in those previous victories. One of the keys to tonight's game was the great defense our forwards and midfielders played."

Oklahoma's 6-3 record marks its best nine-game start in program history. Also, the team's four-goal win marked its largest margin of victory since Sept. 11, 1998, when they blanked Memphis, 4-0, in Norman.

The Sooners host Missouri in a Big 12 Conference game Sunday at noon to wrap up their six-game homestand. The Tigers will enter Sunday's contest with a 5-4 overall record after beating Oklahoma State Friday, 2-0.

The OU Soccer Complex is located at the corner of Chautauqua Avenue and Imhoff Road (directly west of Lloyd Noble Center).
