NORMAN, Okla.   Oklahoma sophomore Marek Velicka and senior Ondrej Fukala were named to the tennis All-Big 12 singles team while the duo of junior Tommy Garrison and Fukala earned unanimous All-Big 12 doubles honors as announced by the league office Tuesday.  For the second consecutive year, the Sooners have produced a singles and doubles All-Big 12 selection.

Velicka, a Prerov, Czech Republic native, captured his second straight All-Big 12 singles honor after recording a 16-6 regular season record at the top singles position and claiming the ITA Region V Singles Championships title in the fall.  Currently ranked No. 63 in the ITA poll, Velicka also received Academic All-Big 12 honors earlier this season.

Fukala also claimed All-Big 12 singles honors after producing an overall record of 17-2 and a 4-2 mark in Big 12 play.  Fukala, hailing from Prerov, Czech Republic, was one of six Sooners to have posted 13 or more victories and earned Academic All-Big 12 first-team honors this year.

In addition, Fukala claimed the All-Big 12 doubles team selection with Garrison (Enid, Okla.) after recording a 15-3 regular season record.  It marked the second-straight doubles team accolades for Garrison, a 2004 Academic All-Big 12 member,  who earned the 2004 honor with Velicka.  Fukala joined Velicka as one of two Sooners to earn singles and doubles team honors in consecutive seasons.

The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

The OU men’s team currently owns an overall record of 17-6 and will have to wait until Wednesday, May 4 to see if it will receive an at-large bid to be one of 64 teams competing in the NCAA Championships.
