Hurley Named To Academic All-District VI Team

NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior defender Andrea Hurley was named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District VI Second Team on Thursday as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Hurley, a native of Edmond, Okla., has helped the Sooners to the program's best season with a 13-6-1 mark. She has played in all but one game this season and is tied for second on the squad with five assists. In addition, Hurley and the OU defense has shut out seven opponents this season and held the opposition scoreless for a consecutive span of 403 minutes and 31 seconds (Oral Roberts, Texas State, Texas, Texas Tech and Colorado). 

The junior defender is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member and was one of 11 first-team members this season to put the Sooners atop the conference with the most academic accolades.Hurley joins former Sooner Erin Young and 2005 senior captain Christy Kenkel, both two-time members, as the only other Sooner in program history to be named to the Academic All-District VI Team.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAAchampionship sports.

Oklahoma, eliminated from the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday, awaits its postseason destiny which will be decided on Monday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m.  ESPNEWS will air the selection show which will unveil the NCAA 64-team field.  OU made its lone appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2003, a season that also saw it get eliminated in the first round of the Big 12 Championship.
