NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners (7-9, 0-2 Big 12) return to Norman for two matches this weekend at the Headington Family Tennis Center. OU opens home Big 12 action on Friday as the No. 17 Texas Tech Red Raiders (16-2, 1-0 Big 12) visit Norman for a 5 p.m. match.
"It is always exciting to host conference matches and we are especially excited to get back on our home court," head coach Paul Lockwood said.
The Sooners last played at home on March 25 and defeated Cameron and OBU. Last weekend the Sooners made a stop in College Station to face Texas A&M and the Texas Longhorns.
"We lost both of our matches last weekend but we found the good in the defeats. Heading into the last month of our schedule we know what we need to do to meet our team goal of making the NCAA Championships," Lockwood added.
Last season Oklahoma defeated Texas Tech by a score of 4-3 in Kansas City.
The women's tennis team will be facing Iowa State also at 5 p.m. Friday
The student organization with the most fans in attendance on Friday night will win $300 for their group. Also, one lucky individual will be selected for a $100 cash prize. Fans must arrive by 5:15 to be eligible for cash prizes and must be present for the announcement of the winners, which will directly follow the last match.
Gift certificates from Louie's, Classic 50's, Rusty's Frozen Custard, Raising Canes Chicken, Maggie Moos Ice cream and Which-Wich Sandwiches will also be given away throughout the match.
Oklahoma is ranked No. 67 in the April 1 release of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings.
Sophomore Andrei Daescu is ranked No. 32 in the ITA singles rankings.
