MANHATTAN, Kan. - The 25th-ranked University of Oklahoma volleyball team fell in five sets at Kansas State (25-18, 23-25-25-16, 21-25, 12-15) Wednesday evening. Despite a dominating third set win in the match, the Sooners (19-8, 6-5 Big 12) were unable to overcome the loss of senior setter Brianne Barker, who left the match late in the second set due to injury.
OU out-hit the Wildcats (18-8, 7-5 Big 12) with a .160 clip to KSU's .136 and committed fewer errors, but Kansas State scored the final seven points of the fourth set and jumped out early 5-1 lead in the fifth before a KSU error tied the set at 12-all. The Wildcats went on to score three straight to take the fifth set 15-12 and secure the win. Oklahoma has dropped three straight matches for the first time this year and continues to seek its 20th win of the season.
Carlee Roethlisberger recorded her first career double-double with a career-best 10 kills and 10 block assists. Suzy Boulavsky led the Sooners with 15 kills and added four block assists and a team-best 17.0 points. In her return to action, Morgan Reynolds had 14 kills, hitting .364. Reynolds added three block assists.
Barker had 22 assists and five digs before leaving the match. In her absence, Kylie Cowan had 10 assists and seven digs. Caroline Weir also saw time at setter and had nine assists.
Maria Fernanda led OU with 21 digs. Keila Rodriguez added 11 and Caitlin Higgins had 10. Sallie McLaurin added five total blocks, including two block solos. As a team, OU out-blocked the Wildcats 16.5-11.5, but the Wildcats had more digs (98) than the Sooners (81). Rodriguez and Cowan had two service aces each, four of OU's six on the night.
Oklahoma returns home Saturday evening to face Baylor at 7 p.m. CT at McCasland Field House.
