Sooners Have Strong Showing In Austin, Edmond

NORMAN -- For the second weekend in a row, the University of Oklahoma track and field teams headed to separate meets and for the second week, OU had success in each competition.

In Austin, three Sooner individuals and two relays qualified for finals on Saturday and one, Alesha Peel, posted her second consecutive NCAA provisional qualifying time. Peel won her heat and posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time with a 13.50 in the 100-meter hurdles. Other Sooner qualifiers included LaBoris Bean and Joey Scott, who had the eighth and ninth fastest qualifying times in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. The women's 400-meter relay won its heat with a 45.42 and had the fourth fastest qualifying time while the men's 400-meter relay had the ninth fastest qualifying time with a 40.85.

In Edmond, OU had double winners in Shayla Austin, who won the long jump and triple jump, Megan Crystal, who won the discus and shot put. Other winners for OU included Mary Waytula, who won the 100-meter hurdles, Jenny Ledford, who won the 1500-meter run, Briana Hope, who wont he 200-meter dash, the men's 3,200-meter relay, Cecil Rose, who won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Justin Conkling, who won the high jump, and Mark Moss, who won the 200-meter dash. Additionally, Taylor Cates, who is competing unattached while sitting out this year as a transfer, won the high jump and the 100-meter dash.
