TULSA, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma track and field teams open the 2012 outdoor season this weekend at the Tulsa Duels. Luke Bryant won the discus throw with a collegiate-best throw of 198 feet, four inches. The mark improves on Bryant’s previous best which ranks as the second best in the event in program history. Conrad Aaron took sixth in his first collegiate discus competition, throwing 159-2.
Brittany Borman was the top collegiate finisher in the women’s discus throw, finishing second overall with a mark of 173-4. Borman was one of five Sooners competing in the event as OU had half of the top 10 in the event. Bailey Wagner was third (168-1) and Karen Shump was fourth (163-0). Lauren Guerrieri opened her year with a fifth-place finish in the event (158-6). Freshman Alex Morgan was sixth, throwing 156-5, the 10th best mark in the event in program history.
Rylee Rackley moved into third on the all-time program list in the women’s hammer throw with a collegiate best throw of 168-8. Angel Togafau was seventh in the event (165-9). Ashley Kowalewski finished second in her first collegiate throws competition. Kowalewski threw 131-6 in the javelin after making the move from the pole vault last season.
Holden Mitchell was third in the men’s hammer throw (171-11).
The Sooners return to action next weekend, March 23-24, at the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
