NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team heads to Evanston, Ill., for the Wildcat Invitational at Northwestern on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

The weekend marks OU's fourth-straight appearance at the Wildcat Invitational which features players from some of the top programs in the country including Northwestern, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan State, DePaul, Illinois-Chicago and South Carolina.

"This is the fourth year we have played this event and we have always got a lot out of it," OU head coach David Mullins said. "It will be great to compete against some of the top teams from the Big 10 and Midwest Region."

All six Sooners will compete in both singles and doubles after a two week break from competition after the 2011 Sooner Fall Invitational.

OU's doubles pairings for the Wildcat Invitational will be Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Wofford, Nicole Long and Mia Lancaster and Peta Maree Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie.

OU hosted the Sooner Invite on Sept. 16-18 and saw its two newcomers, Long and Wofford, go undefeated in singles.  OU went a combined 19-12 at its tournament including a 17-7 showing in singles.

During the OU tournament, Long and Wofford both finished the weekend at 4-0 in singles, while Long also went 2-1 in doubles with partner Huet.  Huet went 3-1 in singles and a combined 5-2 on the weekend.

The Wildcat Invitational will be OU's last fall tournament before the 2011 ITA Central Region Championships on Oct. 20-24 in Tulsa, Okla.

The Wildcat Invitational begins at 9 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30 at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center.
