NORMAN, Okla.  – Senior Andrei Daescu and freshman Costin Paval were named to the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America team, released by the ITA Monday, June 07.

“We are very proud of Andrei and Costin,” head coach John Roddick said. “They had a terrific year and really deserve it. They did a great job of improving as the year went on and really played some great tennis at the NCAAs."

The duo, ranked No. 13 in the final ITA rankings, went on a tare in NCAA doubles play where the duo advanced to the Elite Eight. On the way to the quarterfinals the tandem defeated Florida’s No. 8-ranked duo and South Carolina’s 25th-ranked pair.

On the year, Daescu and Paval defeated five doubles opponents ranked in the ITA top-25, including Tulsa’s 24th-ranked tandem twice. In total, the duo defeated 10 pairs in the top-80.

In addition to announcing the All-America team, the ITA released the final team rankings, where the Sooners jumped three spots to No. 17. The Sooners' illustrious season was highlighted by their first-ever appearance in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships and included marquee wins over No. 3 Texas and No. 14 Texas Tech. OU finished the year with a record of 19-8.

In singles, Daescu ended his career ranked No. 34. Junior Ionut Beleleu checked in at No. 50 and Paval rounded out the rankings at No. 78.

“I am really happy for Andrei to go out like this and it is really exciting for Costin to start off his career at OU this way,” Roddick said.
