NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team is in ninth place after the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash. Oklahoma carded its second lowest opening round score (299) of the spring. Arizona is leading the field by nine strokes after shooting a 285. Duke's Virada NIrapathpongporn is leading the tournament individually after turning in a 68.
Oklahoma received a great performance from senior Jennifer Tannehill, who carded a two-under par 70. Tannehill is tied for third place in the field of 124 competitors. Junior Allison Johnson also had an excellent round with a score of 73, which included five birdies. Senior Wendy Martin carded a 77 and is in 70th place. Trailing Martin by two strokes is sophomore Lisa Meldrum. Fellow Sophomore Hope Edge carded a first round score of 81.
Oklahoma will begin the second round off the first tee starting at 12:10 p.m.
