NORMAN, Okla. – The seventh-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team defeated Saint Louis and Creighton on Sunday afternoon in the only two games of the weather-shortened OU/Sooner Legends Tournament. OU (15-3) won the opener against Saint Louis 7-4 and followed with a 5-3 win against Creighton.

In the first game, Oklahoma totaled five runs in the bottom of the first inning and held off the Billikens (3-9) to take the win. After junior Amber Flores singled down the right field line and senior Samantha Ricketts reached on an error, junior Lindsey Vandever hit her team-leading fourth home run on the year to score three runs. With one out, freshman Katie Norris doubled to left center and scored on a double by sophomore Chana’e Jones. Jones then scored on a double to left center by sophomore Wendy Trott.

Neither team plated a run in the second or third but Saint Louis’ bats came to life in the top of the fourth. Kerri Dockins walked to lead off the inning and Rachel Heet reached on an OU miscue. Nicki Jost then singled to load the bases with no outs. Erin Cejka singled up the middle to score Dockins and Katie Johns’ single plated two more runs. Pinch runner Rachel Faletto scored on a sacrifice line out by Kelly Flanagan. With one out in the inning, OU turned to freshman Samantha Bachman to replace starter freshman Allee Allen. After getting the second out, Bachman walked Brittney Schmidt and Kristin Nicoletti reached on an error. Dockins hit into a fielder’s choice to end the inning and the threat.

Oklahoma added two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Jones and Trott reached on back-to-back singles. Jones scored on a fielder’s choice by sophomore Dani Dobbs and pinch runner D.J. Mathis scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Haley Anderson.

A. Allen (5-1) went 3.1 innings, allowing all four of the Billikens’ runs. She walked three and struck out four. In her first appearance of the year, Bachman picked up the save, walking one and striking out one in 3.2 innings pitched.

Kelcie Matesa (0-4) got the loss for Saint Louis, allowing five of OU’s runs, four of which were earned.

In the second game, Creighton (5-5) put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning when Bailey Dawson hit a home run on the second pitch of the game. Michelle Koch then walked and later scored on Laura Kratochvil ground out. The Sooners answered in the bottom half of the inning when Flores walked and moved to third on a double by Ricketts. Vandever then singled up the middle to score Flores and Ricketts. Norris’ single up the middle scored Vandever.

The Bluejays added another run in the fifth Dawson singled up the middle to put a runner on board with two outs. Koch singled to left and Dawson scored on a single down the right field line by Renae Sinkler. Once again, OU responded by doubling Creighton’s total in the bottom half of the inning. Trott walked to lead off the inning and Dobbs sacrificed pinch runner Karolyne Long to second on a bunt. After Long advanced to third on a balk, Anderson walked and stole second to give OU runners on second and third with one out. The Bluejays intentionally walked Flores and OU scored two runs on a sliding play at first by Ricketts following a Creighton error.

Freshman Kirsten Allen (4-0) went the distance for the second time this season. K. Allen struck out a season-high six batters and allowed two walks. Tara Oltman (4-4) got the loss for Creighton. Oltman walked 10 and struck out eight.
