NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Martin Smith along with Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Programs Joe Castiglione announced the 2011 indoor portion of the schedule for the Oklahoma Track and Field program. The 10-week schedule includes two home meets and stretches from Seattle to Akron, Ohio.
The Sooners will host the 11th annual J.D. Martin Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 22 and the Mosier Indoor Facility will see action return with the Sooner Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 19. The home indoor meets are the first two home contests of 2011 for the Sooners as the outdoor season sees the team host the John Jacobs Invitational on April 15-16 and the 2011 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 13-15.
OU opens the season in Fayetteville, Ark., at the Arkansas Invitational on Friday, Jan. 7, and will follow with a trip to College Station, Texas, for the Texas A&M Challenge on Jan. 15. It will be one of three trips to College Station for the Sooners as they return on Jan. 28 for the two-day Big 12 vs. SEC Texas A&M Challenge and the two-day NCAA Indoor Championships starting on March 11.
The Oklahoma program will also be in action in Lincoln, Neb., on two occasions as the Huskers host the Husker Invitational beginning on Feb. 4 and the 2011 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships beginning on Feb. 25.
While the majority of athletes will be in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 4-5, others will be in South Bend, Ind., for the Meyo Invitational. The weekend is one of two that will see the Sooners split as Feb. 11-12 will see OU athletes at he Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio, the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Husky Classic in Seattle.
