NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men’s golf team begins play for the Big 12 Championship Friday, April 29, at the Whispering Pines Golf Course in Trinity, Texas.

The Sooners look to improve on their second-place finish to Texas last year. OU has improved at every spring tournament, most recently finishing a season’s best of fourth at the inaugural Texas A&M Invitational in Bryan, Texas.

Sophomore Anthony Kim leads the Sooners. The La Quinta, Calif., native shared co-medalist honors with New Mexico’s Spencer Levin at the A&M Invitational and is the only Sooner in this year’s lineup with previous Big 12 Tournament experience.

In the No. 2 slot will be sophomore Nick Sheedy, who earned a career best finish of eighth at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on April 5.

Freshman Phillip Bryan takes the No. 3 spot. The Mustang, Okla., native earned his first career top-20 finish at the A&M Invitational.

Completing the Sooners’ lineup are junior college transfers Justin Fraley and Shawn LaFontaine, who led Odesaa (Texas) College to the NJCAA National Championship title and a perfect record last season.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed Whispering Pines Golf Course brings the Big 12 Tournament to Texas for the first time. The par-72, 7,300-yard course rests on 400 acres of piney woods 88 miles north of Houston near Lake Livingston.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Friday at 8 a.m. OU tees off from the first tee at 8:50 a.m.

Live scoring will be available at and full recap of each day’s action will be available at following each rounds conclusion.
