NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished in third place at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Sooners just missed out on claiming their first Big 12 conference title, falling short of first-place Texas by only five strokes. OU shot a final-round 304 and finished the tournament at 59 over par. Oklahoma State finished in second place and the Cowboys' Hunter Mahan claimed medalist honors with a three-round total of 208 (-2). The tournament was held at the prestigious Southern Hills Country Club (7,016 yards, par 70).

Oklahoma was led by junior Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas), who shot a three-round total of 224 (+14), finishing only one stroke out of third place. Flores finished in sixth place, his second top-10 finish at the conference championships in three years.

OU junior Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) finished only one stroke back of Flores in a tie for seventh place. Martin carded a 77 in the final round and finished at 15 over par. Junior Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) finished the championships with a final score of 226 (+16), good for a tie for ninth place.

Rounding out the scoring for the Sooners were senior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Jim Renner (Plainville, Mass.). Kidwell shot a three-round total of 228 (+18) and finished in a tie for 12th place, while Renner finished at 231 (+21) to land him in 18th place.

The Sooners returns to action May 10-11 when they compete in The Maxwell Tournament in Ardmore, Okla.
