WACO, Texas - Oklahoma's senior Phylesha Whaley scored a season-best and game-high 28 points en route to leading four Sooners in double digits scoring as the women's basketball team handed Baylor its fourth-straight Big 12 Conference loss, 87-66, of the season Saturday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.
Whaley, who scored 19 of her 28 points before intermission, also recorded her seventh double-double of the year as she pulled down 11 rebounds, nine defensive giving her the school's all-time record in that category. The Slaton, Texas, native hit 10-of-14 from the field and nailed 8-of-9 from the foul line. Freshman Jadrea Seeley came off the bench red-hot as she hit all seven attempted shots, including 2-of-2 from the three-point range for 16 points. Sophomore LaNeishea Caufield added 18 points and eight rebounds and Stacey Dales contributed 14 points and seven assists.
Oklahoma dominated the Lady Bears in the paint scoring 46 points to Baylor's 20. OU also continued its hot shooting as the team recorded a season-best 61.0 field goal percentage, hitting 36-of-59 shots. BU shot 35.9 percent from the field.
"I have to give this team tremendous credit for its composure and ability to fight tonight," said OU Head Coach Sherri Coale. "This is a very good Baylor team and we are thankful to leave here with a win.
Baylor couldn't control our inside game, Phylesha Whaley had a fantastic game and provided great leadership on the court tonight. Phylesha and Stacey (Dales) were both great leaders tonight."
Oklahoma moved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the league, while Baylor dropped to 5-9 and 0-4.
Oklahoma continues its Texas journey Wednesday when the Sooners travel to Austin to face the University of Texas at the Frank Erwin Center at 7 p.m.
