Throughout the season, OU junior Haley DeProspero will give OU gymnastics fans a glimpse into life on the road for the Sooner squad. This week's installment details the days leading up to the Cancun Classic, OU's season opening event.
CANCUN, Mexico --Hola! Today is the second of our five-day trip to Cancun and I wanted to check in and let our fans know what we are up to. We headed out very early yesterday morning (we had to be on the bus at 4 a.m.), had a layover in Dallas and made it to our competition site / team hotel, the Hilton Golf and Beach Resort, around noon.
The flights went well. We had a little bit of a rocky landing in Cancun due to some high winds, but everything else went smooth. Kristin (Smith) has managed her fear of flying much better this year and we're all very proud!
Workout this morning went really well with everyone looking great. Special shout-out to the bars and beam teams for stellar performances in practice. We are so excited about the huge improvements we've made in these events.
After workout, we had lunch and headed out to the town market to do a little shopping and pick up something for those who couldn't come with us to Cancun. Talk about an experience none of us will soon forget! I think we all came away with a trinket or two after some extreme bargaining back-and-forth.
After our time at the market, we returned to the hotel to get dressed up for our fancy dinner. Of course we took hundreds of pictures of everyone all dressed up - it's a nice change from the sweats we're usually in. Dinner was amazing; the restaurant was beautiful and the food was fantastic. It makes us thankful for the experiences we get to have as Sooner student-athletes as we are all so blessed!
Well, it's time for our pre-meet meeting, so I have to run. We are all super pumped for competition and can't wait to show off how hard we've worked this offseason. Until next time -
