NORMAN, Okla. -- Five University of Oklahoma student-athletes and the men’s distance medley relay team compete at the 2012 NCAA Division Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday, March 9-10, at the Jacksons Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on Friday, March 9 from 6:30 p.m.-10:45 p.m. CT and Saturday, March 10 from 7:00 p.m.-101:15 p.m. CT. A tape delay of the championship airs Sunday, March 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU. NCAA.com and BroncoSports.com will stream what ESPN3 is not covering on Friday (11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. CT) and Saturday (11:30 a.m.-7 pm CT).

Eric Harasyn opens the competition for OU on Friday at 6 p.m. CT in the men’s mile preliminary. Harasyn enters the meet ranked 14th in the event and qualified with a 3 minute, 58.99 second time on Feb. 10 in Fayetteville, Ark. The men’s mile final is scheduled for Saturday at 7:15 p.m. CT.
Harasyn won the Big 12 1,000-meter title earlier this year and was a 2010 All-American in the mile after finishing ninth.
Malcolm Anderson competes in the men’s 60-meter hurdles preliminaries Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. CT. Anderson has the nation’s ninth best time this season, running 7.74 seconds on Feb. 10 in Fayetteville, Ark. He previously competed at the 2010 indoor nationals. Should Anderson advance, the event final is Saturday at 7:35 p.m. CT.
The Sooners close out action Friday evening at 10:05 p.m. CT with the men’s distance medley relay. The team set the program record in the event (9:30.13) on Feb. 3 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City. The time is the fifth fastest in the nation this year.
Tia Brooks is the nation’s leader in the shot put, an event in which OU has two entries. Brooks’ leading mark of 60 feet, eighth inches is an Oklahoma program record and was set on Jan. 21 in Norman. Teammate Karen Shump threw 55-1 on Feb. 24 at the Big 12 Championship in College Station. Her throw is the 14th best in the nation this year. The preliminaries and finals of the event are scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. CT.
Brooks was the runner-up in last year’s competition and took fifth in 2010. Shump finished seventh at last year’s meet and took fourth in the event in 2010.
George Alex closes out the action for the Sooners Saturday evening at 8:55 p.m. CT in the men’s 3,000-meter run final. Alex set the program record in the event with a time of 7:52.92 on Jan. 27 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Alex won the Big 12 title in the event this past year and earned second team All-America honors a year ago in the 5,000-meter run.
