OKLAHOMA CITY – The second-seeded University of Oklahoma softball team opened the 2010 Big 12 Softball Championship Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over No. 7 seed Texas Tech (36-16).

Oklahoma (41-10) advances to play the winner of the 5 p.m. game between No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 6 Nebraska. The game will air locally on KREF 1400 AM at approximately 7:30 p.m. CT. Free live audio and live stats are available at SoonerSports.com.

Keilani Ricketts went the distance, throwing her 23rd complete game and 11th shutout of the season. Ricketts fanned 12 to move her season total to 274, third best in a single season at OU. She allowed just three hits and two walks. Both walks were issued to Tech’s leadoff batter Leah Legler.

Legler was the only Tech runner to advance into scoring position on the afternoon, reaching second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a throwing error in the first inning. She later advanced to second in the sixth inning off a Raven Richardson single.

Lindsey Vandever and Katie Norris each ended the game 2-for-3. Jessica Shults, who went 1-for-3, and Norris drove in both OU runs. Brianna Turang and Haley Anderson added Oklahoma’s other hits.

Oklahoma added the first run in the third inning. Norris singled through the left side and pinch runner Karolyne Long stole second. Turang then singled to move Long to third with two outs. Shults came through, scoring Long on a single to left field.

The Sooners tacked on another run in the fourth. Ricketts walked and pinch runner Evan Sallis moved to second on Anderson’s single. Norris then singled up the middle to score Sallis and push OU ahead 2-0.
